Dear Zindagi, A Movie That Gave Me A Reason To Write

*Though, this blog is a review of a Bollywood movie, Dear Zindagi, it still fits in today’s daily prompt, sated. 🙂

Sate, now what does that mean? Satisfy to the fullest? Well, in that case, don’t you think it’s a bit difficult for humans? I sometimes feel that we (humans) are like those greedy animals who keep looking for our prey (i.e. achievements or our own goals). And as soon as we find it, we grab it with both hands and start looking for another one, irrespective of the fact that we are full.

Am I not good in explaining this? Phew, Fine! I will share my example.

Many times, I find people saying to me that I make strong and bold remarks. Yes, I do! What’s wrong if I am open to every bold discussion or put my views strongly. In my country, we have a list of ‘taboo’ subjects, right from open discussions on sex… girls’ clothes… religious beliefs towards menstrual… or even mental illness. These are issues and we, as human beings, have brains to deal with them through open discussions. I do it because I have a brain. But some people don’t have it.

Whenever I talk about all this, I end up listening remarks like:

Why do you want to be a part of controversy?

Girls shouldn’t talk about sex… it leaves a wrong impression!

If you will speak about mental illness, people will think you are visiting psychiatrists. Who will marry you then?

Bullshit! That’s my answer.

If people are getting judgemental towards me that’s their problem. I am an Indian and my constitution allows me the freedom to speak. It’s important to give sex education to our children, aware people about mental illnesses, and just discuss. Do we need the world full of ignorant people? If yes, then I don’t want to be a part of it. I will express and share what I feel. I am quite happy and satisfied with this kind of a life.

Why am I talking about all this?

A state of satisfaction can be achieved even with a small incident or act. I achieved it today. 🙂

I watched a Bollywood movie, Dear Zindagi. This movie left a strong impact on me. After watching it, I’m not just satisfied with the movie but it also made me feel special. I am glad that I express my feelings.

A little about the movie

Movie, Dear Zindagi!

The movie has actors like Shahrukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar, Ira Dubey, Aditya Roy Kapur etc. It is written and directed by Gauri Shinde. She has also co-produced it with Gauri Khan and Karan Johar. Out of all these big names, my favorite was Gauri Shinde. Why? Well, in that case, watch English Vinglish (another movie directed by her). 🙂

With such big names attached to the movie, I surely had a lot of hopes… and I’m not heartbroken after watching it.

I am not someone who write reviews for movies. In fact, it’s my first shot. I am mentioning a few things I look for in a movie and then rating them out of 10 with reasons.

Storyline

9 out of 10

The story of this movie is very sweet, simple, and carries a bundle of life goals. As the movie name says, it’s all about Dear Zindagi (life). 😀 By that I mean, there are a lot of things happening in our daily life that we miss to care but they do leave a strong impact. The story actually revolves around the struggles that youngsters usually face and tells you how to deal with it.

The only reason why I gave 9 instead of 10 is that there were certain moments in the movie when I felt that the writer dragged the storyline a bit too much. Though, the presence of great lead actors like Alia Bhatt and Shahrukh Khan overshadowed the little flaws.

Direction

10 out of 10

I always believe that the superstar of the movie is a director. It is the director’s vision which is reflected in the movie.

In Dear Zindagi, the whole storyline was so simple yet special. So, it needed a special direction. And honestly, as an audience, I don’t think any other director could ever portray this simple concept so beautifully.

Music

8 out of 10

Well, I do not have a specific reason to give 8 out of 10. It may vary on an individual’s musical preferences. I would have given it 10 if I have not listened to the music of my recent favorite tracks of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. 🙂

Overall, the music of Dear Zindagi is awesome but I think I loved the tracks of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil more. I don’t want to compare the two movies but I think I still have a hangover of those songs. 😀

Personal Connect

10 out of 10

For me, ‘Personal Connect’ is one criterion which can be reviewed only after watching the movie. And as I have already seen it, so there is no doubt that it has 10 out of 10 impact on me. Before I explain why I gave 10 here, I wish to explain what I meant by personal connect.

I am a kind of person who loves watching realistic movies. I don’t get excited about movies like Jurassic park, Harry Potter, etc. I mean they are also good and entertaining but they never leave a strong impact on me because of the obvious reason, ‘unrealistic’. 🙂

A movie touching my heart is always very special. So, Dear Zindagi is indeed one of those movies added in the special list. After watching this movie, when you’ll leave the cinema hall you will surely question yourself, ‘Do I need a professional help too?’. 🙂

What did I learn from the movie?

Well, above are the few things I look for in a movie. I have not talked about the collections or any technical stuff rather I reviewed it from audience’s point of view. I have not even mentioned about the actors’ performances because I thought it’s useless to review such fine actors of the industry. If you look for good acting then a movie having actors like Shahrukh Khan and Alia Bhatt in lead, is a must watch. I am just too small to review their work.

Overall, I think the movie is great. It nailed right in the middle of that busy life which we all have. It talked about those small things which we all face but don’t really react to. Sometimes, we know that we are going through a bad phase… we know that we cannot solve it on our own but we still resist to keep it within. This movie will actually make you realize the importance of professional help. It will push you to vent out choked emotions.

There is nothing wrong in expressing. Personally, I know a lot of people who feel that dealing with own issues and not sharing it with someone is the bravest thing. I don’t agree with this. And if you do, go and watch this movie.

I am glad that this movie is made. Sometimes we just need a wake-up alarm and this movie is surely one. 🙂

Thank you, Dear Zindagi team! It was great to watch a wonderful movie. I am happy that I could connect with it. 🙂

A small note to those who wear a ‘Smile Mask’
