Udaipur, the lake city! हम सब इस शहर को lakes, palaces, beauty, और ideal travel destination की तरह जानते हैं| गलत भी क्या है? ये शहर है ही इतना ख़ूबसूरत| पर मेरे लिए ये शहर एक नया कदम लेके आया था… एक ऐसा कदम जो मैं हमेशा बढ़ाना चाहती थी पर अक्सर बढ़ाने से पहले ही हिचक जाती थी| इस हिचक को आप डर का नाम भी दे सकते हैं… लोगों का सामना करने का डर… ‘Stage fear’ is the word.
कुछ वक़्त पहले मैंने एक blog लिखा था, ‘WordCamp Udaipur चलें?’. Basically, मैं WordCamp Udaipur में speaker के तौर पर जा रही थी| मेरा topic था ‘How to make Hindi content visible?’. हर जगह share तो कर लिया कि January में मिलते हैं उदयपुर में पर सच तो ये है कि मैं काँप रही थी अंदर से| 😀
पर फिर finally, the day arrived.
26 Jan 2017! सुबह 5:15 की flight थी| आप सोच रहे होंगे पागल है ये| इतने सुबह की flight क्यों ली| Actually मैं इतनी excited थी कि मैंने flight ticket reschedule करा ली एक दिन पहले| 😀 अच्छा ही हुआ… after all, इतने ख़ूबसूरत शहर का बनने के लिए जितने दिन सोचो कम ही लगते हैं| 🙂
जब वहाँ पहुँची तो बारिश हो रही थी| पहले तो by god बड़ा कोसा भगवान् जी को… कि क्या यार, बारिश कर दी… अब घुमूंगी कैसे? पर hotel के लिए cab करी तो रास्ते में बारिश और उदयपुर कि मिट्टी की खुशबू अलग ही थी… it was so beautiful. ऐसा लगा जैसे कश्मीर के बाद अगर कहीं जन्नत है तो बस यहीं है| 🙂
मैं सुबह कुछ 6:30 बजे अपने hotel, Trident पहुँची| 5 star hotel था तो इतना तो पता था कि अच्छा ही होगा लेकिन इतना अच्छा होगा ये नहीं पता था| खूबसूरती कमरों में नहीं उसके बाहर थी| And the best part of the hotel was its greenery and ambiance.
वैसे तो मैं उदयपुर एक conference attend करने गयी थी और सारा excitement उस conference का था पर जब इस शहर में कदम रखा तब समझ आया कि क्यों सब इस शहर कि इतनी तारीफ करते हैं| क्यों लोग WordCamp Udaipur से ज़्यादा उदयपुर में घूमने के लिए excited थे| 😀
Early morning flight थी तो obviously रात भर नहीं सोई थी ठीक से| सोचा था जाके hotel में सो जाऊँगी और शाम को कहीं घूमने जाऊँगी| पर फिर रुका ही नहीं गया|
Breakfast करके अपने कुछ colleagues और friends के साथ घूमने चल पड़ी| उस दिन का plan था City Palace! इस palace का नाम सुनते ही अब बस दो शब्द दिमाग में गूँजते हैं… ‘Huge’ yet ‘Beautiful’!
We took almost 2 to 2 and a half hours to see the complete palace. The experience was mesmerizing. 🙂
और इससे भी ज़्यादा खूबसूरत था Rajasthani music. जब हम hotel लौट रहे थे तब Pichola lake side पर एक आदमी कोई musical instrument बजा रहा था… Google किया तो पता चला कि वो शायद Ravanahatha बजा रहे थे| मुझसे रुका नहीं गया और मैंने अपने फ़ोन से video shoot कर लिया| आखिर कला को दुनिया के सामने लाना भी तो ज़रूरी है| 🙂
अगले दिन हम Hathipole चले गए| Hathipole वहाँ कि shopping destination है| उदयपुर में शायद गुजरात का influence ज़्यादा है इसलिए वहाँ कि हर दूकान पर गुजराती कपडे और सामान दिखे| पर मैंने फिर भी राजस्थान कि एक चीज़ खरीद ली, ‘पगड़ी’| और वो भी अपने छुटंकी (my nephew) के लिए| ये शायद मेरी अब तक कि सबसे अच्छी shopping थी| 😀
उसी दिन शाम को WordCamp Udaipur कि team ने dinner भी organize कर रखा था इसलिए शाम को हम वहाँ चले गए| In fact, मैं इतनी थक गयी थी कि मन तो बिलकुल नहीं था जाने का पर फिर लगा जाना चाहिए… यही मौका है सबसे informally मिलने का| अच्छा हुआ कि चली गयी| 🙂
Afterall, WordCamp Udaipur team rocks. Dinner का venue (Raasleela) ही इतना awesome था कि event की expectations बढ़नी तो obvious थी| Lakeside restaurant में candle light के बीच अपने ही जैसे लोगों से गप्पे मारने का मज़ा ही कुछ और है | After all, हम सब में एक चीज़ common थी… WordPress!
Dinner कब गप्पे मारने में ख़तम हुआ पता ही नहीं चला| And then the day arrived.
Conference शुरू तो lead organizers ने किया पर track 1 में बैठी एक बेचारी लड़की डरी हुयी थी… अब आप तो समझ ही गए होंगे की वो कौन है… वो ही जिसका पहला session था… मैं! 😀
पर वो कहावत है न की जब
ओखली में सर दिया तो मूसलों से क्या डरना| 😀
तो हो गयी मैं शुरू अपने silly jokes के साथ| लेकिन एक बात तो है… ऐसी situations में सच्चा दोस्त ही काम आता है… Sorry, Gaurav! तुम्हारा once upon a time में देवदास होने का secret मैंने public कर दिया| 😀 You are my besssttttttt… friend. सच्ची-मुच्ची! 😀
And thank you! For introducing me to so many awesome people from Automattic. Now, I know why this company rocks! Its employees are awesome.
And a special mention is required for 3 most wonderful women I met and could connect with… Archana Mohan, Nancy Thanki, and Isabelle Garcia. I met them at WordCamp Udaipur and literally, I fell in love with their passion for the work and life. All three of them are different from each other but still so comfortable to be with.
Archana is a wonder woman with a pure heart and full of straightforward wittiness reflecting in her blog. She is such a fun to be with. In fact, she is the first Indian woman I met, who is so confident in sharing what she thinks and do. You are awesome, girl!
Nancy is working in Automattic and I learned something from her. She works in one of the best companies, lives in Atlanta but still so ‘Desi’ from the heart. I mean… she might not speak Hindi but is such a regular Indian girl with whom you can discuss anything and everything. I miss that after-party discussion, Nancy! I hope we meet soon. 🙂
And how can I forget Isabelle? She was also one of the speakers at the event and was on WordCamp Asia road trip. She interviewed me too but if you’ll ask me one memory that I have of Isabelle, it will be that discussion which I, Archana, and Isabelle had near Automattic booth. We were discussing Indian women and the taboos that this society sometimes carry. But not for a single second we felt that Isabelle is not Indian. She became a part of this country in such a small duration. She accepted my country like her own and I love her for this. Some people are so special that they become yours so easily. She is one of them. I really wish to meet you soon, Isabelle. 🙂
I haven’t mentioned many names here. We might not have even shared the frame so that I can flaunt our friendship on the blog or social media. But you all will always reside in my heart. Every time I attend WordCamp I make new friends.
My introduction video, images, and talk’s presentation are embedded in the blog. The talk video will be released on WordPress.tv soon so I’ll update it on the blog later.
And before I give a period to this blog some special mentions are required. So, here I go!
Ayushi! How can I ever forget to mention you? You were the biggest support for all the creatives I contributed to the event.

Last but never the least… Thank you, WordCamp Udaipur! The event was insightful, a learning experience, and so friendly that I am still not over it. The organizers took care of each and every small stuff so minutely that it ended perfectly. It was indeed a lifetime experience and I look forward to attending it again next year. You all were amazing.
